April 1st, 2010

While Easter eggs are being consumed, and Australians celebrate the long weekend off work, it is all business down on the Rosehill Gardens Racecourse as nine prolific races are competed to form the illustrious Golden Slipper Day.

Headlined by the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m), another feature race which will round off Saturday’s events will be the 2010 Star Kingdom Stakes, over 1,100 metres.

The Group 3 race will see 10 top quality starters form the line up, and according to the markets – there are two horses to watch.

Edging the odds coming into the 2010 Star Kingdom Stakes is Welkom Gold at $3.30.

Edging the odds coming into the 2010 Star Kingdom Stakes is Welkom Gold at $3.30. Having recently won the Listed Maurice Mccarten Stakes (1100m), the Broadmeadow based gelding has finished in the top two of his last three starts.

Close behind Welkom Gold in the odds is Dorf Command at $3.90. The two have recently faced off in the National Jockey’s Celebration Day Handicap (1100m) at Warwick Farm, with Dorf Command coming away triumphant – and this Saturday will no doubt see another battle between the two.

Rounding out the odds for the top three starters is Swift Alliance at $5. Starting from the middle sixth barrier, the Gai Waterhouse-trained horse recently finished fourth in the Group 2 Challenge Stakes (1000m) where fellow favourite for the Star Kingdom Stakes – Dorf Command finished second.

Altered Boy could be an underdog for Saturday’s race with odds of $9. With the third barrier to the gelding’s name, he has placed in all three of his last three starts, and may well provide a substantial payout.

Also taking place alongside the Star Kingdom Stakes in Sydney on Saturday will be the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m), the Group 1 The BMW (2400m), and the Group 2 Myer Tulloch Stakes (2000m).
